What is a visa?
A visa is a document issued by an international consulate or embassy which allows foreign national permission to enter that country. For citizens of Turkey, that country is the United States. In order for you, as a citizen of Turkey, to travel to the United States, you must obtain a visa from one of these two places: The Turkish Embassy in Washington DC or any other U.S. Embassy (Turkey has several other Embassies around Europe), or The American Embassy in Ankara, Turkey. Obtaining a visa takes time so it’s best to apply early if you want your trip to be during an ideal season!

Turkey Visas are issued electronically. This means that once you have completed your online application, you will receive an e-mail containing a temporary document (electronic visa). This document is not yet valid, it must be collected in person at an authorized Turkish border gate before traveling. Please note that your electronic visa does not give you permission to enter Turkey; it only allows you to go through passport control for collection. Once you have obtained your electronic visa, please print out two copies of your travel authorization document – both color and black/white copies are acceptable. It is recommended that one copy be carried with you during your journey and one copy be kept as a backup in case of loss or damage.
